The Reptilian Brain

Hey, Friends of Tammy! Nice of ya'll to drop by but... what the fuck are you doing here?
This is old news. The movie bombed. Big surprise. Water over the dam, Tam's heroine further discredited... what?
Anyway, say "Hey" to the "gun-chick" dreamboat (That's what you all think. Admit it) for me.
And hey, Don't be a stranger...
10/21/11

I know, I know... this is all supposed to be about weapons... The next post will be. I promise.
I also know that this is probably inappropriate for the Day of our Blessed Savior's Resurrection but I'm just no damned good.
I've just been cracking up recently over the "mixed" reactions to the release of the, apparently shitty movie based on the, almost certainly shitty "novel" by female talking lizard, Ayn Rand.
I confess, with no small amount of pride in the huge amount I've time I've saved for more productive pursuits; ie taking a dump, that I've never read (thought about reading - tried and failed to read - picked up out of curiosity in a bookstore) "Atlas Shrugged".
I did read "The Fountainhead" during the period of enforced boredom spoken of in the previous post. I don't recall much other than the fact of Howard Roark being one of the least likable characters I've ever been forced to follow through a book.
The guy was a prick - my bad - superman.
Video below: Part of a long ago interview with Mike Wallace interspersed with quotes by some of the deep thinkers of the right singing her praises.
Sean Hannity? In what universe does that little dough-boy rate an opinion?

She's hot! Don't you think?
Lank hair, crooked teeth and no lips whatsover.
With the accent she's the entire package.
Also amusing is the relatively recent revelation, mentioned briefly here, that the great individualist went to Uncle Sugar to succor her during her (I hope) long and painful death from lung cancer. Couldn't have happened to any more deserving organism with a three-chambered heart. Seriously, I like reptiles. I'm not going to cuddle them but they eat bugs that I'm not willing to.
Hey! Maybe she was actually a Komodo dragon. They have toxic drool.
But there's even more to good old Ayn, the darling of the brain dead.
I'll not ruin the surprise. It's lurking in the video below but I'll give you a hint:
William Edward Hickman
Here's an enlightening essay on their "relationship".

What is making this all the more delicious for me is that a few years ago I butted heads (Well, my head. They just used brain stems.) with a couple of Lizard Woman's devotees. You can find them here and here.
Now, Marko, the first of the two is settled into being a Dad and seems to have lost some of that libertarian fervor which I take to mean that he's salvageable.
But the next, one Tamara K. is still on the case. She went and saw the movie and was even cleverly "snarky" (God! I hate that expression) during the previews. And the Village Voice even picked up on that! Wow!
Anyway, back in May of '08 what I was told was that my grasp on the "philosophy" of "Objectivism" was stunted by my lack of understanding.
Okay. Fair enough.
But, being that this entire school of thought begins and ends with the impulses formed in the most primitive part of the psyche, it makes me wonder: "What's not to get?"
I guess I'm just not deep enough.
In closing (And a gun post tomorrow - I promise) a new blog by someone who knew the reptile and The Donald's Mom and has anecdotes to tell.
Go there. Sarah Proud and Tall.
If I wasn't spoken for and she wasn't 92, I'd be so taking her out.

Update!!!
Boy, fucking, howdy. I must have stirred up Ms Tam.
Lots and lots of folks coming my way thanks to her.
Of course, I'll not bother to read her response. It's more fun that way... for me.
Ta ta, Dear.

Can't believe you gave kudos to "Tam" Dan! I'm impressed. So from what I can gather, "snark" is pedant sarcasm from people who've never been anywhere or done anything outside of the web and crappy science fiction, but that might just be me.(Unless paying some guys lots of $ for shooting lessons counts as combat)

Well Andrew, gotta give props when they're due.
I mean she sought me out.

You didn't read the book, but are extremely qualified to criticize it and the philosophy behind it.

I might have given you some credit if you had based any of this on your own study of the work and not from second hand sources.

Oh well, ignorance is bliss,
Josh

Good old Ayn doesn't deserve "study".
Her philosophy, such as it is, is nothing but selfishness rationalized and intellectualized and beaten to death.
A mile wide and an inch deep.
And no, Anonymous, if that really is your name, I'm not qualified to criticize the book at all.
It's just every one who likes it seems to be a shit while the people I respect think it's crap. Therefore, I've saved myself the trouble.
"Ignorance is bliss" huh?
Then... 'tis folly to be wise.
I'm glad you tipped me off to the joys of ignorance.
Maybe I'll curl up with some AR and try to gain some.
Neither of you has anything to say about Hickman either.
I knew I'd get deep thinkers from Tam's place.

Josh Kruschke said...

I do not need to defend AR's work she's done that herself if you had bothered to read her notes.

I will say this she did not idolize Hickman all she did was wonder what would happen if you took his single mindedness his total disregard for what others thought of him and use it to do good instead of evil.

You want to use Hickman as a strawman fine by me. Let me throw some names at you.

Mao
Stalin
Che

You people(the left) don't mind dehumanizing those you don't agree with, and don't see the hypocrisy.

I don't agree with everything she has said or done, but at least I don't let my friends do all my thinking for me.

But what do I know I'm just a Lizard brain,
Josh :-)

Well, Josh. It's nice to hear back from you.
There are obviously layers of nuance in objectivism that I'm discounting and the reality is that I find it so repellent on a basic level that I've never had a desire to dig any deeper.
You're obviously a thoughtful and intelligent guy who's taken legitimate issue with my rather sweeping rant. I guess my intent was to inflame but I always regret when the recipient of such responds reasonably.
Re Hickman, there's a huge difference between unconcern over opinions of others and a lack of compassion. Hickman was damaged goods, a sociopath. There are far better examples of a mindset to admire.
My main problem, due to health issues and finances, is that I'm precisely the type of person this philosophy seems completely ready to discard. I resent that as you may imagine.
As far as what "we people" do, I personally try to not dehumanize others with only occasional success.
I feel that it's important to go through the motions of concern for others if only to be able to respect myself.
I know that there is far more to you than the part I took my cheap shots at yesterday and I believe that know that about me as well, along with everybody else.
I stopped by your place yesterday and really appreciated your recent post on the death of actual discourse. I've grown cynical over that exact reality - deviate from the party line of whatever forum etc. you're on and be either shouted down or banned.
You are the first libertarian I've dealt with that has bothered to have a conversation and I thank you for that.

I do believe in charity, but at the family, local church level; not at the State and Fedral level. One is personal and the other is impersonal and inefficient.

I do like to debate the issues, maybe over coffee sometime.
