"A Copse. Evening"

"A Copse. Evening"
A. Y. Jackson, 1918
"I don't make hell for nobody. I'm only the instrument of a laughing providence. Sometimes I don't like it myself, but I couldn't help it if I was born smart."

1st Sgt. Milton Anthony Warden.
"From here to Eternity"

Paul Valery

"You are in love with intelligence, until it frightens you. For your ideas are terrifying and your hearts are faint. Your acts of pity and cruelty are absurd, committed with no calm, as if they were irresistible. Finally, you fear blood more and more. Blood and time."

The Wisdom of the Ages

"When a young man, I read somewhere the following: God the Almighty said, 'All that is too complex is unnecessary, and it is simple that is needed',"

Mikhail Kalashnikov
"Here lies the bravest soldier I've seen since my mirror got grease on it."

HAPPY NEW YEAR - or - Thank God It's Over...

Another cultural artifact I picked-up from the orange place.
I can't believe this isn't a joke - but then, conservatives have been surprising me lately.
This place is called "deceptors".
They're about changing people's minds - and I do believe they may have changed mine.
I can't give it all away but here's a choice tidbit from their mission statement - verbatim:

yes our government gives us freedoms but, the liberals take those freedoms and put laws against them. like the right to bear arms. they wont let us buy ammo for our guns so we cant use them if we dont have ammo. they want us to all die so they can make a liberal world well i say no they have ruled for too long already we should have conservatives in office to conserve energy and save lives.

Tell me, is this for real? Are there really people this stupid?
I'm not even talking about the content - the spelling, the syntax, the punctuation - oh, God the horror.
As I said to myself the very first time I ever heard Rush:
Just because you've got an audience, it doesn't mean that you've got something to say.

I just couldn't leave this wonderful decade with my parting shot being an apologia to genitalia however necessary it may have been. And needful it was, all in aid of my pointless pursuit to blow shit at useless personages; henceforth shall remain nameless (Cheney, Nugent. They suck!)
Anyway, another of my pathetic pastimes is looking at "Buildings Under Construction - Old School"; for free, courtesy of George Hill and all those other taxpayer patriots.
All of them... doing their part... doing their part to keep my sorry parasitic ass at their bountiful and freely offered tit.
Free information! From The Library of Congress!
Does Rush know about this?

In any case, this disorder of mine is simply a dependence/addiction to "Structure Porn".
Too much time in the building trades? Too many years of saying (truthfully) that "Work fascinates me. I can watch it by the hour."
Something drives me to look at other guys at work!
Is there nothing to be done for me?
Okay, enough George Hillery.
The Flatiron Building, as a work in progress.

The third pic here packs a bonus although that may be over-stating it.
This link will get you to Shorpy.com's hugerific, multi-meg TIFF of the same pic.
For detail porn, you can't find better.
The guy on the 15th floor. See him?
Okay, I'm a wise-ass so I've got to close on some silly, narcissistic tangent.
Now if I'm going to imply a tangent of that sort, then I'm obligated to follow same.
For your consideration:
My take on this last photo is that, despite the obvious care and craftsmanship evidenced in the previous pics, the Flatiron ended up being just a tad shy of where it was supposed to be.
It took seventeen years or so but they finally got a British MkV to tow it into the position it now enjoys.
Thank you very much.

Intellectual lemming. I like that.
There's just something so balls-out self-destructive about putting all this out there without (I assume) ever proofreading - or having anyone else read it.
"Hey world, I'm a dummy!"
Thirty years ago this guy would have had seven or eight Garfield, spiral notebooks full of his thoughts - single-spaced, longhand.
Now we can all read it.
Truly living in the best of times.

"we can't use them if we don't have ammo" I don't think guns are the only thing he lacks ammo for...Amazed he can fill out the paperwork to buy a gun!
Are you sure you didn't write that just to stir shit up Dan?:-)
Happy New Year as well.
